About the Artist

Carol Rubsam - Biography

Fine Art Specializing in Portraits

Realism, Documenting Life

I come from South Dakota which gave me my love of open skies and space, cattle land  and wheat fields, and the beautiful colors of the prairie.  For university I went to the big city to see if I liked it.  I didn’t.   But it did intensify my appreciation of the Great Plains.  Now at home in the Kansas City area...   a place to appreciate the dual advantages of metropolitan living and what I love about big skies and the prairie.

After 30 years in an office, I was able to finally able to devote my time and energy to art, documenting scenes of everyday life, especially the faces.  I currently belong to several organizations which inspire and challenge me and recognize my acquired skills:  MidAmerica Pastel Society (past President);  The Portrait Society of America;  National Oil and Acrylics Painters;  a member of the Albrecht Kemper Museum and Gallery in St. Joseph, MO.;  Olathe Visual Artists; and a member and resident artist at Olathe Art Gallery.   I display in several Galleries in the Kansas City area, and teach classes and workshops.

I also teach the basics and techniques for creating art.  Over the years I have found I have a talent for not only creating art but for teaching others how to do what I do.  Several of my students are now showing work in area galleries.   Classes are available privately or in group sessions.
